From biomedical, public health, and educational research, to studies in the behavioral, computational, and social sciences, effective qualitative data analysis plays a critical role. Accurate and reliable coding using computers is central to the content analysis process. For new and experienced researchers, learning advanced project management skills adds hours of struggle in trial-and-error sessions. Experienced coders and project managers can deliver the data you need in a timely and expert manner. For this reason, we have created the Qualitative Data Analysis Program (QDAP) at the University of Pittsburgh’s University Center for Social and Urban Research (UCSUR). QDAP offers a rigorous approach to analyzing text.

Changes: Former QDAP Director Dr. Stuart Shulman accepted a position starting September 1, 2008 in the Department of Political Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Donald Musa will serve as Interim Director of QDAP.

Spring '08 News: CAT will be released as open source software under a GPL within one year.
Plans: In September 2008, QDAP-UMass will launch and focus on annotation for computer and social science research, as well as tool-building for qualitative research and governmental agencies.
Updated CAT Tutorial: Watch a July 2, 2008 Screencast presentation on "New CAT Features".
